A roundabout left people in Crouch End baffled after contractors painted arrows pointing traffic in the wrong direction.

Cyclists first noticed the mistake on Friday and tweeted images of the roundabout in Stapleton Hall Road, Crouch End, nicknaming it the 'wrong-way roundabout'.

It was ridiculed by cycling campaigners on social media websites, who joked the campaign to ‘go Dutch’ was being taken too literally by Haringey Borough Council.

The authority said the arrows have been replaced and the contractors had picked up the bill for their mistake.

A spokesman said: “This mistake by our contractors Ringway Jacobs will be rectified as soon as possible at their expense.

“Temporary action has been taken at the roundabout to avoid confusion.”
