For keen bird-watchers, the Wetland Centre offers the perfect sanctuary, and in the coming months visitors can learn about their songs at specific workshops.
At this time of year the Wetland Centre has turned into a great place for listening to birdsong.
As songbirds declare their territories and attempt to attract a mate they are often hidden away in the dense foliage of trees or reedbeds, so getting to know them by the sounds they make is very handy for any level of interest in birds and wildlife.
In one-and -a-half-hour workshop, bird-lovers will learn how to identify birds through song, guided by an expert through useful tips, notes and fieldwork.
Likely birds that will be around and singing include blackbirds and robins, as well as wetland specialities like Cetti’s warbler and lapwing.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to identify 10 key species.
