A teenage girl has died after being hit by a lorry next to Mitcham Common. 

Claudia Jennifer Landa, 17, is understood to have suffered brain stem death after being hit in Carshalton Road, Mitcham, at the junction with Goat Road at 4.20pm on Wednesday, April 2.

Her mother is Naomi Martin, director of the Commonside Trust, based in Pollards Hill.

Ms Martin confirmed her daughter died this morning, prompting tributes from friends and members of the community.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "The pedestrian, a 17-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries.

"She was taken to hospital where she is on a life support machine and is sadly not expected to survive."

The 17-year-old girl was found in cardiac arrest and treated by paramedics at the scene before being airlifted to hospital.

The girl was previously believed to be a woman in her 50s but police have confirmed the error.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Hampton Traffic Garage are conducting an investigation. They ask that anyone who was in the area at the time and saw what happened or assisted at the scene, make contact with them on their witness line 0208 941 9011.
