Under-fire Beaverwood School for Girls in Chislehurst to change name after alleged chemical attack

This Is Local London: Beaverwood School in Beaverwood Road, Chislehurst Beaverwood School in Beaverwood Road, Chislehurst

Beaverwood School for Girls is changing its name to Chislehurst School for Girls following last month’s alleged chemical attack.

News Shopper reported on March 12 how two girls were arrested on suspicion of possessing a prohibited weapon following an incident in the school playground which left one girl requiring hospital treatment.

At the time the girl's mother, Kerry Finch, 30, of Mottingham Road, slated the school's handling of the situation.

She said the Beaverwood Road school failed to inform her of the incident until hours after it had happened and failed to take her daughter, Paris, whose "whole face was completely burned", to hospital.

She told News Shopper: "The school neglected to call for three hours after my daughter’s face had been burned.

"I jumped in my car and went down there.

"When I got there her whole face was completely burned, her cheeks were blistered.

"The teachers neglected their duties.

"They had no right to delay my daughter's treatment for three hours. Maybe then she wouldn't have blistered on the cheeks.

"She was left in a room with a tissue.

"I was in shock that they did this to my daughter."

Following the incident headteacher Karen Raven said: "Beaverwood School for Girls is proud of the calm and sensible way in which the isolated incident was dealt with by students and staff.

"It is business as usual for the school community as exams are underway.

"At break time, a teenager randomly sprayed a can, the contents of which accidentally caught some of her friends.

"Only one student was treated in hospital. No other students were involved.

"The school continues to take all appropriate actions."

A spokesman for Beaverwood School said: "The decision to change the name to Chislehurst School for Girls pre-dates this by several months, having been passed as a resolution of the full governing body meeting on December 4 2013."

The two girls who were arrested, aged 13 and 14, were bailed until April 25.

They're changing their name because of this non-incident?

Sounds like you've put 2 and 2 together and got 7. Which is about right for a comprehensive maths class.

So you say that the school is "reportedly changing its name". Yet no hint of where the report came from, and the rest of the story is just a re-hash.

For all we know this could be chinese whispers. Has the 'report' been double sourced?

Too late changing the name now, the damage is done. Don't matter what name the school goes under - still have the same reputation.
One consolation for the young ladies attending - they won't get ribbed about 'beavers'. Thought I would get that in before someone else did. You know what mens minds are like!

Eagles man please explain. I am a first time user and commented on another story last night and got several thumbs up, I have a very strong suspicion that the voting figures have been tampered with overnight ..... How very odd? Is that what NS generally do when they recieve criticism? I suspect so.... I may take this National. I thought we lived in a democracy. Very disappointed. Please let me know your thoughts.
