Radio Redhill, the station serving the East Surrey Hospital, has taken more trophies at the National Hospital Radio Awards.

The station, which broadcasts from its studio home in the hospital, took its awards tally to 48 at this year's event, organised by the Hospital Broadcasting Association and held in Bristol.

The event is open to hospital radio stations all over the UK.

Radio Redhill's coverage of last year's South of England Show at Ardingly in West Sussex won a silver in the Special Event category of the awards, the judges commenting that the special programme covering many aspects of the show was "a real team effort in bringing the event to life for patients."

And there was more praise for the station when its report on the re-opening of the Bluebell Railway preserved steam locomotion line to East Grinstead won bronze in the Speech Package category.

Radio Redhill's Ian Wilson travelled on the very first steam train to leave East Grinstead for 50 years, which the judges said "painted a real picture for the listeners, taking them on the journey itself."

The station was also highly commended in the awards' Station of the Year category.

Radio Redhill chairman Nigel Gray said: "I am delighted with the awards, which brings the total awarded to Radio Redhill since 1997 to 48.”

He said: “This reflects the hard work put in by all the volunteers at the station over the year."

The station broadcasts online, on 1431AM and on the hospital headsets 24 hours a day. Website: www.radioredhill.co.uk
