Neighbours have described hearing a "huge bang" the moment a car collided with a car parked in a driveway, which then hit a telegraph pole and a van.

Bill French, 51, of Belvedere Road, Bexleyheath was sitting in his living room watching television on Friday night when he heard the crash across the road at 7.45pm.

The glass fitter said: "It was just a huge bang at first and I automatically looked out the window to see what was going on.

"We then heard two more large bangs. I was quite shocked to see it all unfold right on my doorstep.

"I am not surprised to see this happen because we are having a lot of trouble with the road at the moment with the traffic.

"People speed up and down this road and it is very dangerous.

"We need some more traffic calming measures brought in."

Another neighbour, who didn't want to be named, described her shock at the situation that unfolded on her doorstep.

She said: "It's incredibly dangerous. I am still in quite a lot of shock."

A spokesman for Bexley Police said: "Police called to a collision between a VW Serocca and a BMW in Belvedere Road, Bexleyheath at 19:45hrs on Friday 28 March.

"The VW Serocca then collided with a telegraph pole and a VW van parked on the driveway of a house.

"The male driver and female passenger of the VW Serocca fled the scene before police arrival.

"No reported injuries.

"Enquiries continue and there have been no arrests."
