Enfield Borough Council has announced the winners of its annual sporting awards.

The event at Lea Valley High School in Enfield on Thursday, March 20, celebrated the sporting achievements of teams and individuals in the borough during 2013.

A total of 50 individuals were nominated for awards in eleven different categories.

Stand out winners included Margaret Alphonsi, also known as ‘The Machine’ was crowned adult sports performer of the year.

The sports coach and instructor of the year awards went to Paul Bosley for his dedication in teaching martial arts to his students who have been successful at national and world championships.

Receiving the inclusive and active coach of the year award was Cathy Underwood-Radan, for her dedication to the evolution of yoga programmes.

The award for the inclusive and active sports Performer of the year went to Joe Halle of Enfield and Haringey Athletics club.

Trent Park Running Club was crowned volunteer of the year, and club of the year was Brimsdown Bowls Club for their community spirit and their inclusivity to people of all ages and abilities.

Enfield Council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure, youth and localism, Councilor Bambos Charalambous, said “This event is always a fantastic recognition of the hard work and effort young people, coaches and volunteers play in making Enfield a great place for anyone to take part in sport.

“I would like to congratulate everyone that was nominated and of course all the winners for their brilliant contribution to sport in Enfield.”
