A retired Epsom College worker has been recognised for his volunteer work in the Combined Cadet Corps.

George Glanfield was honoured by the Greater London Reserve Forces and the Cadets' Association during the association's annual general meeting this month.

The 76-year-old received a certificate of commendation from Sir David Brewer, Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London.

Mr Glanfied joined Epsom Combined Cadet Corps as a volunteer in 2004, after retiring from his job on the reception desk at Epsom College.

He is a regular at the group's Wednesday meetings, helping to prepare for parades, as well as undertaking a number of administrative tasks to help the operation run smoothly.

Mr Glanfield, who served with the Royal Signals alongside the Gurkha Division in British Malaya between 1958 and 1960, said: “I am very proud that the time I have given has been rewarded in this way.

“Working with the CCF has kept me fit and I have enjoyed giving the young ones the confidence to achieve what I have done in my career.”
