Newland House: Plenty for youngsters to do

First published in News by

Newland House School launches an after school club in April for children aged four and upwards.

The club will run until 6pm every evening, offering affordable care for working parents.

Headmaster at the Twickenham school David Alexander said: “Parents need a range of flexible options when it comes to childcare to suit their family circumstances.

“Wraparound care at school makes logistics easier for them and they are comfortable in the knowledge that their children are engaging in age-appropriate educational and play activities in a safe structured school environment at an affordable price.”

Is this for anyone or just their own pupils? Why didn't the journalist bother to ask? Did they not think it important? Otherwise this is just yet another RTT advert for an expensive private school.

Many of our local state schools also have wraparound care, and have done for many years. I suggest you add that fact into the story for balance.

Too many parents regard schools and teachers as child minding agencies. School is a place where children are presumed to be learning, and teachers, one hopes, are highly trained professionals who teach. Want a baby sitter? Go and pay one, schools are NOT a nannie service.
