Good yarn: The Knit Whits with their creations

Blood appeared to be dripping from trees in Hampton last week as a group of local knitters used their talents to support the NHS Blood Donation campaign.

The Knit Whits, who meet on the second Monday of each month at Hampton’s White House Community Centre, joined fellow knitters nationwide in crafting some of the 8,000 blood drops that popped up on trees outside hospitals and university campuses across the country.

The group also spent six weeks producing a much larger blood droplet standing at more than 1.5m high and 2.3m round, which hung high above the commuters at London’s King Cross station as part of the donation drive.
