St George’s Hill Golf Club has raised more than £50,000 for cancer charity Myeloma UK.

Friends of the charity’s former board member and local man Peter “Norm” Hunt, who died of myeloma in November 2012, raised the sum at the captain’s charity golf day at the Weybridge golf club.

Club captain George Meakin requested that the cash went to the Peter Hunt Memorial Fund in aid of Myeloma UK.

Myeloma UK chief executive Eric Low OBE said: “During his 10 years as a board member, Peter played a pivotal role in the development and growth of Myeloma UK, and especially our research programme.

“The memorial fund in Peter’s name was established to ensure the significant contribution he made to myeloma research would continue after his death.

“We are delighted that the event was such a success and a big thank you to the hard working team behind the St George’s Hill golf day.”

Club member Alistair Defriez added: “It was an extraordinarily successful day. Norm’s wife Claire was overwhelmed with joy at seeing so many of Norm’s old mates gathered together in his memory, and supporting a cause he did so much to promote and develop.”
