Students aspiring to be the next Alan Sugar set up stalls in a competition to showcase and sell their products last weekend.

Young Enterprise groups from Merton and Sutton schools set up shop on Wimbledon Piazza on Saturday and were judged by representatives from Merton Chamber of Commerce and Love Wimbledon.

Innovative products for sale included travel organisers, bird houses, cable tidies, drink holders and accessories, many customised according to buyers' requests.

Some products had been made by the teams, while others were produced by bespoke manufacturing.

Awards were given to SCoffee (Nonsuch High School), for Best Trade Stand; Luxury by Hand, (South Thames college Merton campus), for Best Product; Alacrity, (Raynes Park High School), for Best Sales Team; and Reflex, (Sutton Grammar School), for overall best on the day.

Diana Sterck, CEO of Merton Chamber of Commerce, said: "The enthusiasm and talent of the young enterprise teams shone through.

"I hope this experience has given them a flavour of what it means to run your own business."

Young Enterprise is a national initiative taken up by schools to encourage 14 to 19 year olds to learn enterprise skills in preparation for the world of work.
