Daredevils abseiled from the roof Epsom racecourse to raise more than £16,000 for Princess Alice Hospice.

The annual Over the Edge event at the Queen’s Stand saw 65 supporters of the Esher hospice make their way 90ft to terra firma on Saturday, March 22.

The abseiling adventurers were cheered on by friends and family who were waiting below.

Michelle Pidgley, 34, from Walton, said: “I’m very scared of heights so doing this brilliant event was a great way of conquering a fear.

“If I was ever going to do something like this, it was important that it be for a good cause like Princess Alice Hospice. My friend’s mum was cared for by the hospice so I’m aware of the great care and support that they provide.”

Yvette Page, 32, from Epsom, said the abseil was the scariest thing she had ever done, but conquering her fears helped raise more than £1,000 in sponsorship.

Early indications show that the abseil has raised about £16,500, but the figure could continue to rise as more sponsorship money comes in.
