A Bexley father-and-son table tennis team have smashed a world record for the sport's longest rally.

Daniel Ives, 24, and his dad Peter Ives, 50, broke the Guinness World Record at a Plumstead club – playing solidly for eight hours 40 minutes and 10 seconds on Sunday (March 23).

The duo’s feat at Plumstead Radical Club was streamed live to 7,000 viewers and raised £1,300 for prostate cancer research.

Father-of-two Mr Ives, who lives in Station Road North, Belvedere, taught his son table tennis in a shed in the garden.

Daniel Ives, who is now a table tennis coach and runs website TableTennisDaily, said: "It feels incredible to have broken the World’s Longest Table Tennis Rally for a sport which everyone has played at some point in their life.

"It was so tough, the last five minutes felt like two hours.

"It was very tense, but all worth it."

He went on to thank everyone who had supported the family. To find out more and to donate visit justgiving.com/tabletennisdaily
