A Walton shopping centre was given a silver award for a second year in recognition of its waste and recycling efforts.
Since 2012, the Heart has reduced its landfill waste to zero and increased its amount of recycled waste by 50 per cent.
The New Zealand Avenue shopping centre won the silver award from the Zero Waste Awards, which judges applicants on the range of criteria including the recycling, recovering and composting of products, waste prevention and energy recovery.
Mark Middleton, general manager at the Heart, said: “The Heart understands that its activities affect the environment and the community in which we operate.
“We believe that we have a responsibility to identify and manage these impacts, and we are continually improving our environmental performance.
“It was therefore important to us that we achieved zero waste to landfill as we have an obligation and responsibility to our retailers, residents and the local community.”
