A comedy line-up straight out of leftfield will be coming to Kingston for a night of laughs with a distinctly political edge.
Stand-up comic and writer Arthur Smith will be your host as Stand Up For Labour – a touring fundraiser for the Labour Party – heads to town on Sunday, April 6.
On the bill is guitar-strumming joker Christian Reilly, who was part of Rich Hall’s band when he won the 2001 Perrier Award for his Otis Lee Crenshaw show.
He will be joined by Irish/Iranian funnyman and Edinburgh Fringe regular Patrick Monahan, who was recently seen taking the plunge in ITV’s celebrity diving show Splash!
Irish burlesque dancer-turned-comic Mary Bourke, who won rave reviews for her Edinburgh show Muffragette last year, completes the line up.
The Stand Up For Labour tour has been running since 2012, visiting constituencies around the country to drum up support and campaign funds for local Labour groups.
It has been brought to Kingston by Tessa Kind, chairman of the Mill Street Residents’ Association and a Labour candidate for Grove ward in the upcoming local elections.
She said: “I'm overwhelmed by the support of the local community for this event.
“This is a great way to come together to show the local council that Labour has a voice and we're ready to stand up for our local residents.
“Forget beer and bingo, laughter is the best medicine.”
Stand Up For Labour will be held at St John’s Parish Hall, in Grove Lane, Kingston.
A licensed bar offering drinks and snacks will be available on the night.
