An escapist fantasy of a classic opera with a modern twist will be brought to life with music and comedy.

The Epsom Light Opera Company will be presenting an exciting production of Die Fledermaus.

This is essentially an opera about being wealthy, irresponsible and drinking vast quantities of champagne.

Life is sensationalised, emotions are heightened, people dress up as bats and everyone ends up inebriated beyond their wildest hangovers.

The show has draw its inspiration from the modern relations of the Viennese operetta - American dramas like Gossip Girl, Revenge, Mad Men, Desperate Housewives.  So Einsenstein and Rosalinde live in a penthouse apartment and Orlovsky's party is in nightclub.

With a new libretto in modern English commissioned especially for this production, Die Fledermaus should prove a very fun production.
