Free books for world book day
Children across the borough have been getting their hands on free books in celebration of world book day.
Schools and libraries have been handing out £1 vouchers children can exchange in bookshops for special world book day books or put towards the cost of a more expensive book.
The vouchers have been given out throughout the week to mark world book day, which falls on Thursday, March 6.
As well as the vouchers libraries held rhyme times, story times and new homework help sessions for the week-long celebrations.
Councillor Gareth Evans, cabinet member for community, business and culture, said: “Reading unlocks a whole world of possibilities for young minds, taking them on fantastic adventures and teaching them about every corner of our incredible universe.
“Supporting world book day, we aim to get as many young people in the borough reading as possible by encouraging book ownership via the voucher scheme and promoting their free access to an enormous range of books via our libraries.”
