THIS week, Hillingdon residents have the chance to be at one with nature, look to learn a new skill or meet with their local police officers. Here are my top five suggested events in the borough for under £5.

Wednesday, March 19

Teenagers and adults looking to get further qualifications under their belt can drop into Uxbridge College’s Open Day between 3 and 7pm. With courses as far-ranging as accounting and vehicle maintenance, guests will be able to speak to tutors and tour the college.

Wednesday, March 19

Crane Valley project officer Andy Willmore will be giving a presentation to groups on the importance of grazing in maintaining nature conservation areas. The talk will be at Minet Lodge Visitor Centre, Minet Country Park, Hayes, 7-8.30pm. While entry is free, guarantee your seat by e-mailing ashipley@hillingdon.gov.uk.

Friday, March 21

A police surgery will take place at Oak Farm Library, Sutton Court Road, Hillingdon, 11.45am- 12.45pm. Locals have the chance to raise any community concerns during the session.

Saturday, March 22

Blow away the winter cobwebs with a guided walk around the historic 144-acre Cranford Park, off The Parkway. Hillingdon’s Countryside and Conservation Officer will be the tour guide for the event, which begins at 11am at the park’s information centre and lasts around 90 minutes. Historical relics, River Crane and nature trails are just some of the sites you might spot on the day.

Tuesday, March 25

Carers can go along to Harefield Carers Café in St Mary's Church Hall for a 90-minute catch-up with each other. Guest speakers from a number of groups will be on hand to talk about the services they offer to carers. The event takes place every fourth Tuesday of the month, 1.30-3pm.
