Raiders threaten woman with knife in Charlwood pub burglary

Police are hunting two men who threatened a woman with a knife and forced her to open a safe in a “terrifying” aggravated burglary at a pub in Charlwood.

The raiders struck at The Greyhound pub in the early hours of last Thursday (March 13).

The woman, aged in her 30s, was woken by the intruders at about 5.30am.

They brandished a knife at her, to force her to open a safe.

After she did, the men left, taking cash.

A Surrey Police spokeswoman said: “Investigators are working to establish how much was taken during the burglary.”

Senior investigating officer, Detective Inspector Paul Gordon, said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim and we will do all we can to bring those responsible to justice.”

Det Insp Gordon said: “At this stage in the investigation we believe the property was specifically targeted because the burglars made very detailed demands.

“I am sure someone will be able to link the pieces together and provide us with information on the offenders.”

Appealing for help from people who may know someone who had been spending time in the area, who has been acting suspiciously or who was away from home in the early hours of last Thursday, he said: “If you can help us in anyway with our investigation, please contact us as a matter of urgency, and all information passed to us will be treated in the strictest of confidence.”

He continued: “I understand, for whatever reason, some people may wish to provide information anonymously, and they can do this through the independent charity Crimestoppers, who can be contacted on 0800 555 111.”

One of the offenders was described as white and spoke with a London accent.

Police response officers carried out a full area search following the event, and uniformed officers from the Mole Valley Safer Neighbourhood Team are helping detectives with their investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference 45140019424, or Crimestoppers.
