Two Spurs stars took on Middlesex University students in a game of robot football using technology to be used at the new Tottenham University Technical College.

Spurs defender Zeki Fryers and striker Harry Kane visited Middlesex University to see what students can expect when teaching at the college begins in September.

The England under-21 internationals helped Middlesex students build football-playing robots before putting them to the test in a remote-controlled match.

The players' years of training and were of little use when the only control they had over the ball was through their thumbs, and the webcams and processors assembled into robots playing on a miniature pitch.

See how they fared in this exclusive video content currently available on Spurs TV and the club’s official YouTube channel.

The mobile robots were designed by university staff and built by students to support their learning.

Named as Myrtle Robots, the technologies involved are based on the Raspberry Pi and Arduino microprocessors.

The robots are equipped with wireless networking, as well as a webcam to capture footage at robot’s level.

Wi-Fi capability allows the robots to be controlled by a remote joystick as well as tweeter feeds running off a web server.

Design engineering students spent their first semester learning to manufacture and build these robots, which are then used by computer science students.

This collaborative learning approach will also be instilled into the teaching practice for the Tottenham UTC, which specialises in technology and science used in sport, health and engineering.

Tottenham UTC will be open in September as part of the club’s stadium regeneration scheme, and is currently recruiting Year 10 and 12 students for the coming academic year.
