A man has been arrested after a shopkeeper was threatened with a golf club.

A fight is believed to have broken out before threats at the newsagents in Shelvers Hill, Tadworth, just before 5pm on Friday.

The store worker and man with the golf club are thought to know to each other and minor injuries were reportedly sustained.

A man in his 60s has been arrested on suspicion of affray, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and driving while under the influence of drink or drugs.

He has been bailed until Wednesday, May 7, while the police investigation continues.

Investigating Officer Dave Evans said: "I believe there were a number of people either in the store or in the vicinity of the shop when this incident occurred and I urge those witnesses to contact police with information.

"Although someone has been arrested in connection with the threats and a number of witnesses have already been traced other people may hold information vital to our investigation."
