Winter Olympic hero Lizzy Yarnold will be coming to West Kingsdown next week on her victory bus tour.

Lizzy, 25, was the only Brit at this year’s Sochi Winter Olympic Games to clinch a gold medal, Lizzy the Skeleton sensation, grew up in the village and she went to St Michael’s school in Otford.

The open-top victory bus tour will stop at Blighs in Sevenoaks town at approximately 12.10pm and will travel to several local schools as Lizzy is keen to inspire a new generation of young athletes.

The tour will take in much of Sevenoaks town, Riverhead, Otford, Eynsford and will finish in West Kingsdown.

It will end at West Kingsdown Primary School in Fawkham Road at 2.35pm where Lizzy will be presented with a gold postbox on Friday, March 21.

Lizzy said: “Winning Olympic Gold really has been a dream come true and I am so excited about touring my home village to thank all those people who have supported me.

"I can’t wait to go and visit some of the local schools, show off the gold medal and thank them all for cheering so loudly during the races - it really did help!”

Councillor Peter Fleming, leader of Sevenoaks Council, added: “Lizzy’s hard work, drive and sacrifice to become an Olympic champion is an inspiration to us all.

"I am delighted that we helped her early on in her career with grants from the Sevenoaks District Sports Council.

"I am deeply honoured that she has agreed to tour the Sevenoaks District where she grew up.”

The full route and timings are available at www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/lizzyyarnold School and community groups who want to congratulate Lizzy en route should let the Council know by calling 01732 227000 or e-mailing communities@sevenoaks.gov.uk so the Council can arrange for the bus to slow down as it passes them.
