Couples who provide a caring home for vulnerable children were recognised for their dedication.

Harrow Borough Council celebrated the work of the borough’s foster carers at a award ceremony at Harrow Arts Centre.

Sixteen careers received awards at the event last week, including one couple for their long service, fostering for more than 30 years.

Cabinet member for children Cllr Janet Mote said: “We owe our foster carers a lot – they open up their homes and hearts to some of the most vulnerable children in the borough.

“Events like this are important because they help us to really take stock of the ceaseless work that foster carers do, and this is just one way that we can say thank you to them.”

There are 63 foster carers in Harrow who look after more than 190 children who may need short or long periods of time away from their family home.

Harrow Foster Carers Association chairman Ann Birchley said: “It was a lovely evening, with some very touching awards.

“There are lots of ways that Harrow Council says thank you but this is one of the main events as it makes us feel special to know that they really appreciate what we do.”
