Vulnerable people can rest easy at home following news Surrey Fire and Rescue Service has been recognised for its efforts to keep them safe.
The project, launched in 2013, provides fire safety training to carers looking after the elderly and impaired, it is run with the Surrey Care Association and Surrey County Council’s adult social care team.
The initiative won fire and rescue project of the year at the annual Improvement and efficiency awards, which recognised the work of public sector bodies.
Community safety manager Bryn Strudwick said: “This award recognises the tremendous day-to-day work of all the staff involved and the importance of a joint approach to ensuring people stay safe at home.”
While the county council’s cabinet member for adult social care, Mel Few, was equally delighted, and said: “Protecting vulnerable people is at the heart of what the county council and the fire service do and this award demonstrates that.”
