A second Elmbridge Cancer Research UK fundraising group has reached a milestone in as many weeks.
The Esher fundraising committee hit the £1m fundraising mark after 37 years supporting the charity.
The £1m was raised through events such as annual luncheons, bridge drives, quiz suppers and children’s clothes sales, with the milestone amount achieved at the magical million ball held at Hampton Court Palace in December.
The night, which included a live auction hosted by Jeffrey Archer, raised more than £50,000 towards their overall fundraising efforts.
Maureen Morton, chairman of the Esher Friends of Cancer Research UK, said: “It has given the friends great satisfaction to raise over £1m but even more satisfaction to see how many more people recover from cancer now than when we started 37 years ago.
“However, there is still more work to be done.”
