Officers from the Horley-based Technical Rescue Unit of West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service went to the aid of a pregnant mare stuck in mud at Rusper.
The eight-strong unit was called to farmland off Capel Road, where the horse had become stuck and was laying down in thick mud on Wednesday (March 5) at 2pm.
With a vet standing by, the horse was raised to its hooves by the unit officers using specialist animal rescue equipment, and was then transported back to the stable yard.
The incident was left with the vet and the horse's owner.
