Amendments to Metropolitan Police stop and search powers have still not been agreed despite a deadline for changes of December 12 last year.

Home secretary Theresa May has proposed various changes, one of which would see the stop and search procedure for weapons only able to take place if senior officers believe violence will take place rather than thinking it may take place.

The aim of the changes is to reduce the number of stop and searches and make them more effective.

It is also hoped to improve relations between police and the community.

The proposals have been supported by Liberal Democrat and Labour MPs but government officials have refused to say when the changes might be implamented.
