A man was leapt on by undercover police officers after he allegedly threatened police and members of the public with a fake gun.

James Quinn, 23, appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates Court on Friday to face one charge of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause others fear of violence.

He was not asked to enter a plea and was granted bail.

Police were called to a home in Richmond Road at about 7am on Thursday, February 27.

It is claimed Mr Quinn had a white plastic imitation hand gun which he allegedly threatened PC Nicolaou, PC Brameld and members of the public with.

Mr Quinn, of Ham Close in Richmond will appear at Kingston Crown Court on Friday, March 14.

A witness to the incident who did not want to be named, said: “We saw a police car near and then suddenly two police officers appearing to be in their own clothes.

“The other officer ran and jumped on a guy.

“I thought it was quite brave and I know police officers don't always get good press but they certainly are braver than I could have been.

“I'm just glad my children were not walking to school at the time.”
