A 'selfie' shared by Oscars host Ellen DeGeneres during last night’s ceremony has become the most retweeted image ever.

The photo has been retweeted more then 2.5 million times, beating the previous record set by Barack Obama when he posted a picture of himself hugging wife Michelle after being re-elected US President in 2012.

DeGeneres, hosting the Oscars for the second time, took her picture after persuading most of the front row to assemble behind her.

Her snap features Hollywood A-listers Jared Leto, Jennifer Lawrence, Channing Tatum, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Kevin Spacey, Bradley Cooper, Brad Pitt, Lupita Nyong'o, Peter Nyong'o and Angelina Jolie.

Another first for the ceremony happened when pizza arrived mid-way through, much to the delight of Brad Pitt - see below!

Pizza anyone?!
