Students from Carshalton High School for Girls came top of the league in an enterprise challenge hosted by Crystal Palace Football Club.

The Crystal Palace FC Foundation held its club heat of the Premier League' s National Enterprise Challenge, which sets young people a business scenario similar to ones faced by top flight clubs.

This year, students were asked to develop a new overseas strategy to attract more fans and revenue streams in the US and African markets.

Over 10 weeks, 100 young people from schools and community groups presented their ideas to a panel of four judges at the Eagles' Selhurst Park stadium.

The winners were the team from Charshalton High School for Girls, who will now go on to represent Crystal Palace in the competition's semi-finals, to be held at West Bromich Albion's Hawthorns ground in the West Midlands.

Soye Briggs, director of community development at the Crystal Palace Foundation, said: "This is the first year that we have facilitated this competition and the response from the young people was incredible.

"The amount of work, enthusiasm and commitment that went into creating the proposals was outstanding and inspirational, congratulations goes out to all those that took part.

"We will work closely now with the winners Carshalton High school for Girls to ensure their proposal is of the highest standard for the national semi-finals.

"It goes to show how initiatives like the enterprise challenge can use the power of football to engage young people and develop skills for their future."
