A 'very, very sad day' for community after stabbing in Montague Road, Leytonstone
People living in and around a Leytonstone street where two men were found dead this morning say drug deals and violent attacks are commonplace.
London Ambulance Service staff were called to Montague Road, Leytonstone, at around 1am, where they found two men stabbed to death in a car.
Both men, believed to be in their 20s, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Forensics teams are carrying out an investigation in an area at the end of Montague Road which is cordoned off from Ferndale Road and Malvern Road.
And residents who spoke to the Guardian on Saturday said the area was getting worse.
Jay Butt, 70, lives directly opposite the scene. His home is currently behind a police cordon.
He said: “This is a very, very sad day for the community.
“The police work very hard round here but there is drugs and all sorts going on. There is usually always trouble down in the park.”
Many residents said that anti-social behaviour in the area centres mainly around the flats in Montague Road.
A 20-year-old man who lives in the flats said drugs and violent attacks are common.
He said: “I have lived here for 17 years and personally I think that it is getting worse.
“There was a shooting a few years back and a stabbing not long ago.”
A 67-year-old woman who lives in Montague Road agreed.
She said: “You hear about it so often now.
“It is worrying for all of us living round here.”
Neither person wanted to be named.
Post mortem examinations are currently taking place.
