Mitcham schools celebrate success
Primary school youngsters were honoured by the deputy mayor of Merton in a celebration of their success.
Organised by the ten schools and two Mitcham community groups which make up the Mitcham Town Cluster, the Celebration of Success evening was the second annual event showcasing the work and efforts of schools and pupils across Mitcham.
Children from schools including Cricket Green, Bond Primary and Benedict Primary celebrated the achievements of Mitcham schools this year at the event held at St Mark’s Academy in Acacia Road.
Also honoured was the Cluster Study Support Centre and the SHINE Saturday School.
Designed to provide a stimulating and modern teaching environment, the Cluster Study Support Centre is a joint project across Mitcham schools to help students progress more rapidly with their studies.
The SHINE Saturday School is another of the cluster’s flagship programmes and gets pupils involved in positive activities on Saturdays and during summer holidays.
Deputy mayor of Merton, Councillor John Sargeant, said: "I was very proud to see our young people and schools in Mitcham celebrate their successes and achievements over the past year.
"The celebration evening was very enjoyable and a great tribute to their hard work."
Merton Council cabinet member for education, Councillor Martin Whelton said: "Mitcham Town Cluster has worked hard alongside its partners to ensure that the standard of education in Mitcham is continuously improving."
