UPDATE: Cyclist suffers head injuries after being hit by van near Bromley Common
A CYCLIST suffered head injuries after being hit by a van near Bromley Common yesterday afternoon.
London Ambulance Service (LAS) was called at 1.40pm to a road traffic accident in Southborough Lane, opposite Salisbury Road.
A spokeswoman said two ambulances and a responder car were sent to the scene, later taking a man, 41, to the major trauma unit at King’s College Hospital.
Shopkeeper Abaraham Thavarajah, 38, said he heard a loud bang while dealing with his delivery and saw the aftermath of the collision.
He said: "I heard commotion and when I looked up I saw an accident. The cyclist was on the floor bleeding. It didn't look nice.
"Lots of people were stood around - they were helping him."
Transport for London reported disruption to bus services following the incident throughout the afternoon, with the 208 and 336 routes diverted until around 5.30pm.
Jyo Patel, 59, who works at and lives above another convenience store across the road from where the incident took place, said the road was completely blocked for some time.
He said: "I heard a crash and saw the ambulances but didn't see the cyclist. The road was blocked straight away - there was a lot of traffic."
Police were also in attendance and reported enquiries are continuing, however no arrests have been made. The casualty's injuries are not said to be life-threatening.
