North Middlesex University Hospital launches healthcare bus in Enfield and Haringey
An Edmonton hospital is set to take to the streets in a bid to raise awareness for health services in the area.
North Middlesex University Hospital in Sterling Way, Edmonton, has revamped a former ambulance to visit schools, leisure centres and local events in Enfield and Haringey.
The ‘healthy bus’ has already made its way to Edmonton Green shopping centre and helped dozens of shoppers receive a free health check up.
The project aims to increase awareness of health care issues. It will focus on obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular screening, but will also offer advice on cancer screening generally.”
Professor Stanley Okolo, medical director at NMUH, said: "Our project is aimed at increasing community health awareness and effecting behaviour change for reduction of the impact of cardiovascular disease and diabetes in our local population.
“We hope that this project will supplement the already existing programs run by Enfield and Haringey public health departments to improve the uptake of health and cancer screening programmes in the local area, and the uptake of GP initiated health checks.”
