A SEARCH is underway to find the country’s biggest claims to fame and Visit Kent is encouraging people to nominate the county’s attractions.

National tourist board Visit England has launched its Hall of Fame app to celebrate what England has brought to the world.

The app asks people to submit their hometown’s assets in the following categories: the great, the good and the notorious; inventions and discoveries; food and drink; history and heritage; culture and entertainment and sport and leisure.

Anyone making a nomination, or later voting, will be entered into a prize draw to win a weekend break. Entries are open until March 23 when voting opens to establish a final Hall of Fame, which will be announced on April 23, St George’s Day.

Chief executive of Visit Kent, Sandra Matthews Marsh, said: “Kent is the oldest county in England and has an absolute wealth of information to put forward for this campaign – from its connections with Henry VIII, Pocahontas, JWM Turner and even Mick Jagger to Britain’s oldest brewer and the two oldest cathedrals in England.

“We have a fascinating county to be proud of and I encourage residents and visitors alike to get involved by putting their nominations forward”
