A church will host a Fairtrade Fiesta at a South American-style tea party today.
Finchley and Golders Green MP Mike Freer will ride an eco bike at St Mary-at-Finchley Church, making Fairtrade smoothies using a blender fitted to the bike’s saddle.
As he pedals, the MP will generate enough power to make the smoothies using Fairtrade bananas and fruit juices.
Church Rector the Reverend Philip Davidson will open the carnival activities by tying a giant inflatable Fairtrade banana to the church roof and the Rev Stefan Chrysostomou will dress in a banana suit for the occasion.
The fun will start from 2.30pm, with proceeds going to Columbian farmers.
There will also be family games, Mardi Gras mask making, live music, Latin American dancing and homemade cakes.
