A police officer is believed to have been assaulted as violence broke out at yesterday's football match between AFC Wimbledon and Bury at Kingsmeadow.

The fight is understood to have happened before the game kicked off, but a heavy police presence remained in and outside the stadium during the match as a result.

Two men were arrested - one for assaulting a police officer, and another man for affray.

Both were being held in custody yesterday.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said an update would be provided tomorrow (Monday February 24).

AFC Wimbledon promptly banned for life the 6 individuals who were involved in this minor fracas. They are to be congratulated for doing so. They highly value their reputation as one of the safest places to watch football in the league.

It's a shame that the Surrey Comet didn't rush to report this with as much haste as the original article.
