Up to 10 homes in Ewell have been without electricity since yesterday evening, after another power cut.

Engineers for UK Power Networks are still trying to repair a network fault in the Spring Street area that left almost 26 homes without power overnight.

Power was restored to 16 homes just before 10am this morning, but engineers are still working to reconnect the remaining 10.

A UK Power Networks spokesman said: "UK Power Networks engineers are working as quickly and as safely as possible to restore electricity supplies to 10 customers affected by a power cut in the Spring Street area of Ewell.

"A fault on the underground distribution network developed at 9.07pm yesterday, when 26 customers were initially affected.

"Repairs meant 16 customers had supplies again at 9.34am today..

"We appreciate how difficult it can be to lose power and would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused by this incident."

Ewell Village residents have been hit with several power cuts in recent weeks, at the same time as flooding, though UK Power is not making any link between the two.

It said the latest incident was caused by a fault on an underground power cable.
