A Kingston Grammar School pupil who uses her first aid training to spend weekends at school fairs and sports tournaments to help the injured has said she is a pro at treating blisters.

Every week 11-year-old Anna Gray goes along to her training session at St John Ambulance and then spends at least one day at the weekend helping out wherever she is needed.

The Year 7 schoolgirl has even been to the London Marathon with her St John’s Ambulance team.

The Hampton Hill resident said: “At the London Marathon we each took about five patients each. We saw a lot of blisters. I pretty much know how to deal with a blister now.

“You don’t really get to know the people you treat very well. When people have a nose bleed or take a knock they say thank you and then they are just gone – but it feels good to help.

“I have made lots of friends doing the same thing and it is really fun.”

Science-lover Anna hopes to become a doctor or a paramedic one day and is also interested in tropical medicine.

In her spare time Anna plays hockey for the school team and enjoys listening to music by pop sensation Taylor Swift.

On being nominated an unsung hero, the youngster said: “It was a surprise – I didn’t know anything. But it is really exciting.”

Nick Bond, assistant headteacher at Kingston Grammar School, said: “Anna is a very bright, committed and positive person. She always works hard and is very good at her studies. She is also very cheerful.

“She seems very grown up and I think she has a very bright future ahead of her.”
