A charity cycling challenge has been issued to anyone who wants to get fit and raise money for some of the world’s poorest children.

Rianna’s Fund, the Leatherhead charity set up in the wake of the tragic death of 8-year-old Rianna Davenport, are organising a 300-mile bike ride from Ashtead to Amsterdam in September this year.

The ride will take place over three days, with 40 riders cycling through four countries, with expert guides to make the most of their tour.

Organiser Joanna Sherring said that this would be a bigger challenge in some ways than their Ashtead to Paris bike ride in 2012.

She said: "The last bike ride was a great success and this year we have already signed up 20 people.

"Holland is much flatter, but the wind will be stronger so it will be a different challenge."

The Rianna’s Fund team launched the event with a Dutch-themed night in the Bike Beans cafe, on Rectory Lane.

Rianna’s Fund primarily works to improve education and since the charity was formed in 2003, they have funded schools and children’s home across Uganda, Kenya and India.

Mrs Sherring said: "We choose where the money goes based on local contacts in each area.

"We mostly want to work toward educating children so we find out if we can contribute and if they are trustworthy.

"Rianna was a very sensitive young lady and aware of how fortunate she was compared with children around the world."
