Adventurous scouts from Southgate joined hundreds of scouts from across the country to take part in a 50km hike.

More than 100 teams took part in the ‘Southern 50 Challenge’ where teams had to navigate to a series of checkpoints on a map within 24 hours.

The Southgate Explorers, known the The Hatters entered eight teams into the 30km and 50km routes over the Chiltern hills.

One of the teams entered by the Southgate group, the March Hares, finished fourth, completing the challenge in eight hours and 52 minutes.

The troop had reason to celebrate after making plans to go to Namibia this summer as a follow-up to their trip three years ago to plant orange trees.

The group will need to raise more than £3,000 towards the expedition.
