The chairman of Barent FC says a new medical centre at its ground will benefit the whole community.

Proposals for the medical centre were announced near the end of last year with launch of the partnership between Barnet and Toshiba Medical Systems.

Last week, Harrow Borough Council’s planning committee gave the go ahead for the project at the Hive Football Centre, in Camrose Avenue.

The centre will house the latest equipment including a MRI scanner, CT scanner, ultrasound scanner and digital radiography X-Ray room.

Chairman of the club Tony Kleanthous said: “This approval provides a wonderful opportunity for The Hive to continue its development as a world renowned sporting facility.

“In conjunction with Toshiba we will now be able to establish an imaging academy that will stand alongside the best medical facilities in the world.

“We would like to thank the planning committee for granting permission for this medical centre that will not only benefit the sporting elite but also the local community.

“The Imaging Centre is a £4 million facility which will have some of the best scanning equipment in the entire country and it will bring investment at The Hive to nearly £30 million over the past few years.

“I am personally proud to invest in such a positive venture which will benefit the community of Harrow for many years to come.”

The club hopes the equipment will not only be used for football but also by other sports clubs in London and the wider community with possible partnerships with nearby hospitals.

The centre will also be an academy for Toshiba, providing training for clinicians to learn how to use the scanners.
