A pop-up shop aimed at bringing people together and setting up activities has been launched in East Finchley.

East Finchley Altogether Better (EFAB) has set up its pitch in the foyer of Finchley Youth Theatre in High Road to hear what ideas residents have for the area.

EFAB was established by volunteers who want to encourage people to get projects up and running which they feel will help benefit the area.

Lisa Smith, EFAB coordinator, said: “Our ultimate aim is to reduce isolation in East Finchley. It’s not only older people who feel isolated but also other groups, such as mothers with young children.

“We want to promote socialising and in turn, help people live a happier, healthier life.”

The pop-up shop is showcasing some of the projects already up and running, such as an IT group, gardening club, table tennis club and a cooking session to demonstrate how to prepare simple and nutritious food.

But people can also volunteer their own suggestions about what they would like to see in the area.

Ms Smith said: “Anyone can come in and suggest an idea. They can get involved in setting up the activity, and we can help to support them with funding either from the council or other funding grants.”

EFAB is jointly funded by Barnet Council and the NHS, and is supported by the Barnet Older People’s Assembly as part of the council’s Ageing Well programme.

The pop-up shop will be open from 10am to 2pm until Friday February 21 and again on Monday, February 24, Tuesday, February 25 and Thursday, February 27 between 2pm and 6pm.
