Liberal Democrats in Richmond promised to invest in a new Hampton nursery if they are elected.

The opposition party pledged to install a nursery at Carlisle Infant School, which currently has no nursery provision, if they win control of Richmond Council in May’s local election.

The three-form entry school serves families in Hampton Hill and Hampton and is linked to Hampton Hill Junior School.

Leader of the opposition Councillor Stephen Knight said: “Expanding free nursery places and affordable wraparound childcare at the borough’s primary schools will be a key priority for the Liberal Democrats should we win control of the council in May’s local elections.

“Carlisle Infant School currently had no nursery provision and se we are delighted to confirm that, should we win control of the council in May, we will build the school the accommodation it needs to open a nursery for local pre-school aged children.”

Coun Knight said the party would also look to open new nurseries and expand existing nurseries at other primary schools across the borough.
