Nine-year-old Horley gymnast chosen from more than 600 for coveted trophy
7:00am Tuesday 18th February 2014 in News
Nine-year-old Lily Edwards from Horley has been singled out from more than 600 gymnasts to be awarded a coveted Springfit Gym Club honour.
For Lily has been presented with the club's Fay Greene trophy for progress in gymnastics.
The achievement is a big one as only one gymnast from the club’s 26 local gymnastics classes is chosen, based on who has shown the most over-all progress in the last year. All head coaches at the club decide who deserves the recognition, considering levels of dedication, achievement, competition, attitude and performance, among other important skills.
The trophy was presented to the club back in 1998 by the parents of Fay Greene, a talented gymnast who was so enthusiastic about the sport that her family wanted her passion to live on through the club after Fay’s tragic death at an early age. Adam Reynolds of Springfit Gymnastics Club said: “The award came as a pleasant surprise to Lily, who was aware of the ability of other members in her advanced class and the stiff competition alongside her.”
He said: “Achieving a gold medal in a very talented group of children competing in the club’s Floor and Vault competition a year ago certainly helped her stand out.”
He added her “steely determination in her attitude towards training” has been rewarded by becoming the most recent name to be engraved on the coveted trophy.
Lily was presented with the trophy in front of her peers during the club's Thursday Elite class.
Springfit run gymnastics and trampoline classes for all ages and abilities from pre-school to adult, and have several local training venues. For more details call 0203 478 0203, email: Info@springfit.org or visit: www.springfit.org .
