A veterans' club is looking to find the great nephew of a First World War soldier who they believe lives in the Barnet area.

Michael Meek, registered as living in the borough, is believed to be the descendant of Private Percy Meek, who was among the wounded cared for at the Seale-Haynians Military Hospital in Devon during the Great War.

The Seale-Haynians Alumni Club is looking to trace relatives of the patients and staff to gather pictures and memories for an exhibition celebrating the work of the hospital.

Pte Meek was admitted to the hospital with shell shock during the First World War and later taught fellow recovering soldiers basket making.

They have traced a Michael Meek, believed to be the grandson of Private Meek’s brother Charlie, to the borough and are hoping he might come forward to speak with their researchers.
