This year's Horley in Spring Competition has been launched – with the net for entries being cast wider.

For this year, for the first time, as well as inviting entries from the parish of Horley, Horley Town Council will also be inviting entries from Hookwood.

In addition, schools from Charlwood will be invited to enter.

The annual competition is open to green-fingered residents, businesses and community groups.

It was launched by Horley Town Council to celebrate spring-time colour in the town, with winners, runners-up and best newcomers being presented with certificates. There will be five categories this year for residential house, residential flat, best hanging basket or planter, a community category, which includes entries from schools, and a commercial category, which includes entries from pubs.

An entry form is available from the town council offices at 92 Albert Road, Horley, or can be downloaded from the council's website at: www.horleysurrey-tc.gov.uk The closing date for entries is Monday, April 7.

Judging will take place in early to mid-April, subject to weather conditions.

Prizes will be presented at the Horley Town Meeting, due to be held at the Albert Rooms, Albert Road, Horley, on Friday, April 25.
