WITH an increasing amount of children said to be at risk online, Bromley’s parents and carers have been finding out more about protecting their youngsters today.

This afternoon, Tuesday February 11, the borough’s Youth Policing Team is hosting a series of presentations at the Churchill Theatre – coinciding with the annual Safer Internet Day, organised by charity collective the UK Safer Internet Centre.

Figures have been released by internet security company ESET that note less than half of parents and guardians make use of parental controls available to block dodgy material.

The police said it's important to promote the “safe and responsible” use of the web and mobile phones, while improving adult understanding of the dangers to some of the most vulnerable.

The MET’S commissioner added: "The internet is for many children and young people a channel of socialisation. We must do what we can to make it a safe space.

"We are dedicated to investigating all incidents of concern, including child abuse.

“To protect children and young people from harm, we will investigate those who misuse the internet.”

The police also said the presentations focus on the “creative things” children and young people can do with technology.
