Flood warnings for the Richmond area

This Is Local London: Flooding: A path at the Lensbury in Teddington Flooding: A path at the Lensbury in Teddington

Over the weekend the Environment Agency issued further flood warnings for the borough for areas including Hampton, Hampton Court, Hampton Wick and Teddington.

The agency said properties on the Barge Walk, Hampton Court Palace Golf Club and Hampton Court Road were expected to flood and water levels could reach higher than those seen in January 2003.

Properties closest to the River Thames between Raven’s Ait and Teddington Weir and between Platts Eyot to Hampton Court Bridge were also under threat.

People who live in an area at risk of flooding are advised to take action to protect themselves and their properties.

Simon Hughes, Regional Manager, at the Environment Agency, said: “We encourage everyone at risk of flooding to listen to and co-operate with the emergency services, particularly those in the areas where severe flood warnings have been issued.

“Our teams are out in force checking that flood defences and barriers are in good working order and our Flood Ambassadors are on the ground helping people and communities.”

On 3 February 2014, you ran a story saying the Floodline phone number had changed to 0345 988 1188 which is a cheaper call for almost everyone.

Over the following days you have reverted to quoting the old 0845 number.

Continue to call the 0845 number only if you are on "BT Weekend" or "BT Evening and Weekend" (or a landline provider that copies those BT prices) and you are making a call during a weekday and you therefore have to pay for it, or you are on "Vodafone pay as you go".

Almost everyone else should call the brand new 0345 number and this applies whether using a landline or a mobile.

All callers with an inclusive call plan on their landline or mobile will find that calls to the 0345 numbers are inclusive within their calls allowance.

Mobile users on pay as you go pay less for 0345 calls than for 0845 calls (except Vodafone charges 0845 calls at a discounted rate).
